11 million Americans face October 15, 2012 tax deadline

TULSA - The deadline to file your taxes if you filed for an extension earlier this year is Oct. 15, 2012.

The IRS says about 119,000 Oklahomans are among the 11 million people who need to get their returns in to the agency.

From the free way to file to the credits taxpayers want to be sure to claim:  The IRS sends an urgent reminder to file on time.

Individuals and families who make $57,000 a year or less can Free-File or use e-file .

Call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040.  Lines are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The IRS shares this information about the three credits often overlooked you want to be sure to consider before filing.

  • Benefits for low-and moderate-income workers and families, especially the Earned Income Tax Credit. The special EITC Assistant can help taxpayers see if they're eligible.


  • Savers credit, claimed on Form 8880 for low-and moderate-income workers who contributed to a retirement plan, such as an IRA or 401(k).
