Bynum won by 56 percent of the vote Tuesday. The first thing on Bynum's agenda will be public education according to the newly elected mayor.

The Tulsa Regional Chamber sent out a note of congrats to G.T. saying "Congratulations to all of the candidates who stepped forward today to place their names on the ballot and offer their service to their communities. Northeast Oklahoma is fortunate to have a large number of citizens willing to work hard to improve their home city and state, and the passion they demonstrate is inspiring. The City of Tulsa plays a vital role in the economic fortitude of northeast Oklahoma, and the Chamber congratulates each of the Tulsa mayoral candidates on a hard-fought race. As a Tulsa Councilor since 2008, GT Bynum has been a dedicated public servant providing leadership on many of our community’s most significant issues, challenges, and opportunities. We look forward to working with Mayor-elect Bynum over the next four years on issues of importance to moving our region forward. We also want to thank Mayor Dewey Bartlett for his seven years of dedicated service to our city and his strong partnership with the business community. As a steadfast ally in our economic development efforts, he has played a key role in Tulsa’s growth during his tenure, and he provided a number of successes our community can and will build upon. We are grateful for his years of service, his leadership, and his dedication to Tulsa. We will work closely with both Mayor Bartlett and Mayor-elect Bynum during the next six months to support a smooth transition and ensure an outstanding public-private partnership continues in our city.”

Bartlett's loss comes after two terms as Tulsa's mayor.
