Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Bill John Baker speaks at Democratic National Convention roll call

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - During Wednesday's Democratic National Convention, Cherokee Nation Chief Bill John Baker had a moment in the spotlight.

Baker was selected to officially cast Oklahoma's delegate votes during roll call.

"Madam Chairman, I'm Bill John Baker, Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation," he said.  "My fellow delegates and I proudly cast all of our 49 votes for the best president in Indian country and for Indian country ever, the people's president, Barack Obama."

Before Oklahoma could add its delegates to the list though, Ohio had already put President Obama over the threshold of 2,778 votes needed for the nomination.
