SALLISAW, Okla. - Damon and Debra Glass say even though they're hurting they want to think of others and start a scholarship to help Sallisaw students just like him.

“There wasn’t a day that went by [that] he didn’t make you proud. He’d done something to make you proud everyday," said his mother Debra Glass.

The Glass family is starting the Clay Glass Scholarship Foundation to help Sallisaw High School students in need to go college.

“He didn’t have the size to get a scholarship to go somewhere else to play [football] so maybe this will help some child go where they want to go," said his father Damon Glass.

They said money was tight, but Clay had a plan. He was going to attend school in town and hopefully walk-on to a team his junior year of college.

His mother said the scholarship is about helping other kids who have big dreams like Clay did. He was determined to become a pro football player.

“Every game you knew he was going to give his best and that’s what we wanted from him," said Sallisaw Head Football Coach Scott Bethel.

In February Clay died in an ATV accident. His mother said there are still some very hard days, and it sometimes feels like he's just at school.

But one thing that's clear to her is Clay would've wanted her to do this scholarship. She says he told her so.

“'Help them do what I missed out on.' Because I know how much it meant to him," she said. “He was amazing, we knew it. We knew it. I knew the day he was born how amazing he was going to be. I just thought I had more time.”
