Crowds gather for annual celebration 'Good Riddance Day' to say goodbye to bad memories of 2013

NEW YORK - In a celebration known as Good Riddance Day, crowds gathered to say goodbye to the bad memories of 2013 on Saturday.

People filled Times Square in New York City to write down their memories on a piece of paper and then drop them into a mobile shredding truck.

Visitors said it was a great way to look forward to 2014 with a clean slate.

I wrote 'Goodbye to my 14-year-old son's moody attitude' because we have our differences at times. He's a good boy, but I'm ready to be done with the attitude," Janet Roman of Fort Wayne, Ind. said.

Some of the other bad things that participants wished away included cancer diagnoses, cleaning up after pets and long-distance relationships.
