News of the deadly shooting rampage is hitting local veterans hard. Thursday night some vets gathered at the VFW post in Midtown Tulsa to watch the latest details unfold on television.
They were shocked at what happened, saying military personnel know they're putting their lives at risk when they head off to war. But they should be safe at their own post in the United States.
Korean War Veteran Richard Dawson tells 2NEWS, "My heart is breaking for them. You would think you are safe there."
Iraq War Veteran Mark Courtail says, "I am just trying to get it through my head what happened and I am just lost. It's one thing to be shot in a combat zone. But it's another to be shot when you are back here in the states."
