Tulsa's youngest students could benefit from the Tulsa Public Schools board meeting held Monday night.
The board voted to accept nearly $17-million in early childhood stimulus funds.
School leaders hope to use the money for two new early childhood education centers to be built near two existing schools.
In order to build the schools, one near Celia Clinton Elementary, and another near MacArthur Elementary, the district would have to combine stimulus dollars with other funds.
Leaders hope to use some 2010 bond money, as long as it passes, and some George Kaiser Family Foundation funds for a total of $28-million.
Superintendent Dr. Keith Ballard says its never too early to get children in the school setting.
"There are certain windows of opportunity, and they come early, and so we need to do all that we can to prepare that child to be ready for that school experience. Again the research clearly shows that it makes a big difference," Ballard said.
By voting yes Monday night, the district voted to enter into a contract with a company that has designed several early childhood centers Green Country.
