Thousands of motorcycles are invading T-Town this holiday weekend for the 31st annual Wing Ding. Opening ceremonies kicked off Thursday morning at Expo Square.
The event is expected to bring about 10,000 people to Tulsa to celebrate the Honda Gold Wing Motorcycle.
The annual event travels around the country, last year it was in Greenville, South Carolina and the Wing Ding made it's first appearance in Tulsa back in 1991.
On average about 11,000 people attend the event every year, but organizers are only expecting about 10,000 this year, because of the economy and gas prices.
Regardless, Tulsa hotels and restaurants will be full of Gold Wing riders.
Organizers say they pick the city based on available resources and they say Tulsa's Expo Square and hotels are a perfect fit.
Riders of the Gold Wing bikes call them the luxury motorcycles and they are drawn to the bikes smooth and quiet ride.
Wing Dingers say they wait all year to gather at the event to share their love for the unique bikes.
"The love of the Ride!" said Gold Wing rider, Anita Duerson.
"That's it, the love of the ride, people just love to ride, you come from everywhere, you here of people come from Alaska come down to go to the Wing Ding, they just love to ride," added her husband, Paul Duerson.
The Wing Ding runs through Sunday.
The grand parade happen at 5 o'clock on the Fourth of July.
