Suspected foodborne illness at private school

Last Update: 10/03/2008 9:51 pm
A suspected foodborne illness is being investigated at a private Tulsa school.

A spokesperson for the Tulsa County Health Department told 2NEWS that several students and staff got sick at Holland Hall during lunch on Friday. The health department suspects the problem was watermelon in a fruit salad.

Those who ate watermelon reported symptoms of nausea and vomiting. The health department took samples, and will test them for foodborne illnesses.

It is believed to only affect people who ate at Holland Hall today, and is not considered to be a threat to the community.

A Holland Hall official refused to comment to 2NEWS, but the school's website reports that some "children may experience discomfort and diarrhea within the next 14 to 48 hours."

As a precaution, Holland Hall will not serve food on Monday. That means parents will need to pack lunches for their children.
