If you don't renew your tags in time, you're late fee will increase by 300%.

Instead of 25 cents a day for an expired tag, you'll pay a dollar, but that's not all.

"If you buy a car, there is excise, which there can be a penalty on.  There's the registration, which there can be penalty and the tag.  So potentially, if a person buys a car and they wait beyond the 30 days, that can be $3 a day," said Lex Gaylord, manager of the Tulsa Eastside Tag Agency.

Plus, the amount at which those fees max out is increasing too.

"As opposed to capping a tag, say at $50, for a maximum, it caps that tag at $100," said Gaylord.

Lawmakers say the idea behind it, is to get people to pay on time, and the millions in revenue will go to help small town Oklahoma.

"The purpose of that is to go to rural infrastructure.  We have a lot of infrastructure needs out in the rural areas," said State Representative Chris Benge, House Speaker, (R)-Tulsa.

But some drivers say the state is asking for too much in a tough economy.

"It's already hard enough as it is.  Why make things any harder?  Everybody struggling right now," said driver Marvin Thomas.

However, driver Chuck Breckenridge say a struggling economy is all the more reason the state needs the money.
Plus, he says it could keep motorists on their toes.

"I think it makes people more responsible," said Breckenridge.

If your tag expired June 30th or earlier, the old fee of 25 cents a day applies.

150 state laws will go into effect July 1st.  One of the laws will reform the state's foster care system.  The law will reduce the number of kids in state care, by working to provide families services so the children can stay with their parents or family members.  The law also aims to reduce the number of kids who stay in state shelters.

Another law changes the state agency who oversees state testing data for students.

Benge says a health care reform bill will go into effect in November that will provide insurance for many uninsured.

Below is a list of the Senate bill taking effect July 1st, to see the House bills going into law click on the attachment above.
