Wednesday morning the State Senator Tom Adelson (D) announced he will be running for mayor this year.

Adelson says he was surprised by Mayor Kathy Taylor's decision not to run, but he is looking at the opening as an opportunity for change.

He says Tulsa will face some battles with decreasing revenue and increasing unemployment in the future and he wants to be there to face them.

One of Adelson's major goals is to make Tulsa a more 'livable' city.  He wants to use forums like PLANit Tulsa and build upon resident's ideas and implement them.

"This is about coalition building, this about building broad bases, and this about having people get involved and it's really about having people getting involved themselves, what kind of city do you want?" said Adelson.

Adelson has served on the State Senate since 2004, and he is a native Tulsan.
