During this calm before the winter storm, there are some things you can do, just in case your property is damaged during the storm.
Now's the time to review your insurance policy, to see what's covered.
And if there is damage to your home or vehicle, making sure you and your family are safe, is the top priority.
Then, you should call your agent right away.
"That's important because we need to know how many people are impacted so we can bring in enough people to get those losses taken care of as quick as possible."
State farm and other insurance companies will bring employees in from out of state as needed.
Temporary fixes are fine to secure your home and prevent more damage... But be sure to take pictures before doing any work.
John Wiscaver with State Farm recommends never begin major repairs or sign a contract before your insurance claim representative has had a chance to take a look.
"Don't be taken by firms, unfortunately there are a few out there trying to take advantage of people at times like this.
Maybe an out of state firm coming in and trying to pressure you to sign a contract to do tree removal."
And and after reviewing your insurance policy, you'll likely find tree removal is not covered unless the tree has done damage to your home or vehicle.
