The expansion of I-44 from Riverside to Yale brings a new on-ramp closure that may affect your commute for the next few months.

Starting 9am Tuesday, the Westbound on-ramp at Peoria is closed.

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation expects the ramp to remain closed for about three months.

If the closure affects your drive to work, you may want to leave home a few minutes early to give yourself extra time to detour around the ramp closure.

ODOT Project Manager Matt Casillas suggests that drivers enter Westbound I-44 at Lewis. "Because they (drivers) are going to need to travel to Lewis to get on if they would like to get on I-44. So 51st Street or Skelly Drive would be the best way to travel to Lewis in order to get on the highway."

The detour generally takes about five minutes. But it will take longer once traffic gets heavier along the frontage roads after the Peoria ramp closes Tuesday morning.

ODOT says the expansion project is ahead of schedule. The entire $360-million project should be finished in late 2012.
