ORU laying off 124 positions

Last Update: 10/08/2009 6:16 pm
Oral Roberts University plans to lay off 124 workers, as a result of hiring outside companies to manage campus facilities and mail services.

According to a university news release, Sodexo will become ORU's facilities management provider.  Pitney Bowes will become the mail and copy service provider.  The news release states these moves will save ORU $1.2 million annually.

ORU will be cutting positions in the campus post office, mail center, copy services, document preparation services, housekeeping, facility services, buildings and grounds, plant operations, Mabee Center maintenance and several other departments.

The news release states that Sodexo and Pitney Bowes will consider the laid-off workers to fill the positions that they will need to provide these services.

The release also states that, "these initiatives are a major step toward achieving strategic objectives of promoting efficiency on the campus while meeting the projected needs of the university."
