North Tulsa residents have made the same pleas for almost three years.
"We need something that's close that stays open and that would service us," said Robert Mayes.
Three investor deals to purchase the old Albertson's building at Pine and North Peoria have fallen through.
But the latest round of negotiations involved the owner of four Las Americas supermarkets operating in the Tulsa area.
"They came to me, I saw the location and the facility and it's great," said Las Americas owner Antonio Perez. "I decided to move in and it's a beautiful place."
The new location will be called Gateway Market. Officials say it's a bow to the current name of the shopping center and a symbolic welcome to a part of Tulsa where grocery stores have faded away.
"We've had our police department meet with them (investors) to insure them and show them the statistics that it is not a high crime area, it is a high volume retail area where a grocer will do well," said Tulsa Mayor Kathy Taylor.
The grocery store will employ around 70 workers with diverse backgrounds.
Once inventory is stocked, customers can also once again perform banking business inside the facility.
Investors hope the move will jump-start growth around other local businesses.
Gateway Market is set to open in mid-January.
