A $7.4-million dollar cut from the Oklahoma Department of Human Services is felt here in Green Country.
It means fewer home delivered meals for seniors.
Often times seniors at senior living centers get 5 hot meals a week. At Park Village, 55 seniors participate. Meals for Tulsa recipients will be cut in half.
The Tulsa Area Agency on Aging will see a large cut in senior meals funding. It will cut $719-thousand in meals delivered by Sodexo.
"I read in the paper that $7.4-million had been cut from the food program so I didn't know if that was going to be us or not," said senior recipient Virginia Huggard.
"We are reducing the meals from 5 days a week to 2 days on one week and 3 days on the next week," said Area Agency on Aging Director Clark Miller.
Miller says the reduction of home delivered meals will last until at least January.
3 nutrition sites, one in Owasso, Glenpool, and Country Club Gardens in Tulsa, will close.
Those are the ones with the least attendance, a tough decision by the agency.
"Most of the times, they don't have someone to bring them a meal and often times don't have the ability to cook one themselves," said Miller.
Sand Springs leaders will continue 5 home meal deliveries a week.
Officials say they tightened up the parks budget, and squeezed some money out to keep their senior meals program going full throttle.
