Large house fire in south Tulsa

Last Update: 11/19/2009 9:59 pm
Tulsa firefighters battled a large house fire in south Tulsa.  It happened in the 7700 block of East 53rd Place.  That's near 51st and South Memorial Drive.

The fire department received the call just before 8:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Tulsa Fire Department Chief Officer Bill French told 2NEWS that the homeowner arrived home, opened the garage and saw flames and smoke.  Firefighters also found flames on the second story of the home.

French later said that the fire was so large, that firefighters had to leave the house, and fight the flames from the outside.

The American Red Cross is offering assistance to the victims.

It's not yet known what caused the fire.
