You may be in luck this weekend thanks to the City of Tulsa surplus auction. Items from across Tulsa will go up for auction Saturday. Most of the proceeds will go to the city's general fund. The City of Tulsa is hoping to raise nearly $400,000 dollars during tomorrow's auction. Items could be yours if your bid is the best on things like jewelry, iPods, even diamond rings.
Kenneth Brooks is the pastor of City of Refuge Church in North Tulsa. The building caught fire earlier this year as Brooks is trying to rebuild one item at a time. He says, "They've got lighting here that we can use on our stage. I've found a few items for the kitchen." He and others spent Friday writing down auction numbers preparing to bid on Saturday.
Patricia Cummings, the Purchasing Services Coordinator says, "We have paint striping machines, motorcycles, bicycles, golf carts, inside we have computers and electronics." The money collected will help the city in this financial crunch. Cummings says, "Most of it, I would say 75-percent of it will go back into the city's general fund. Some of the items if they were purchased from an enterprise fund like water and sewer than those proceeds will go back into that fund." She adds, "It is always a good time to have more money, but this is definitely the best time." Pastor Brooks says he couldn't agree more. He says, "We are getting the souls, helping the city and the city is helping us."
There are also a number of instruments up for auction Saturday as well. The auction will be held at 108 N. Trenton. Doors will open at 7am. The auction kicks off at 9am.
The City's auctioneer is Joe Pippin Auctioneers. You may bid online at their website: www.joepippinauctioneers.com or call at 1-214-704-3830.
