There's a new breed of spider showing up in Oklahoma and it's just as dangerous as the Brown Recluse.

Susan Gray with the OSU Extension Center says it's called the Brown Widow Spider and it's poisonous, "The brown widow is less aggressive than the black widow. But, the venom is more toxic."

Researchers at Oklahoma State University say the insect has been in the Gulf Coast for several years.

The very first case found for this state was out near Lawton.Researchers suspect the critter hitched a ride when the homeowner was a volunteer during Hurricane Katrina.

No cases have been reported in the Tulsa area; experts say it's only a matter of time.

Coloring on the Brown Widow ranges from light tan to gray.

You'll also find a distinctive orange or yellow hourglass on it - rather than the typical red one on Black Widows.
