As of January 1st, the city of Tulsa's annexation of the fairgrounds and all the buildings there, including QuikTrip Center, takes effect.
The city now collects sales revenue from events there. That's expected to bring in at least $338,000 a year for the city. But it also means you be paying 3 cents more for every dollar you spent at the fairgrounds.
The "Tulsa Shootout" mini-sprint race is the first event at QuikTrip center since the annexation took effect.
Promoter Emmett Hahn says other than the added sales tax, he doesn't anticpate any major changes for himself and race fans. "I really don't look for too much to change out here. I think they'll keep the same personnel and go on as usual."
Now that the annexation is official, Tulsa police have jurisdiction over the fairgrounds instead of Tulsa County Sheriff's Deputies.
