18 Tulsa police officers who were laid-off, have been re-issued their badges and equipment.
21 were let go last week because of budget cuts. The re-hired officers picked up their gear at the training academy Tuesday afternoon.
The Department of Justice gave the go ahead to hire the officers back because of the $3.5 million grant it is awarding the police department.
Re-hired officers are anxious to get back into problem neighborhoods to help fellow officers.
"We've all stayed in touch this last week and it has been a very trying and hard week for us, especially when it was our turn to go to work and we had to stay at home knowing that our brothers and sisters are out there," said Officer Adam Yerton.
There are 3 other officers who were not re-hired. Officials say they are considering jobs with Tulsa Public Schools, but FOP leaders want to raise money to get them re-hired with the city.
FOP President Phil Evans is encouraged by public support that he says the officers received. The FOP set up an account to try to get them re-hired.
"Right now we are working with the Fraternal Order of Police Credit Union to put up a fund to try to raise $100,000. If we can pay the city for those 3 officers, then we can get them back," said Evans.
