Woody Guthrie Center to open Saturday in Tulsa

TULSA (AP) -- A 12,000-square foot center honoring Oklahoma native and legendary folk singer/ songwriter Woody Guthrie is scheduled for opening in downtown Tulsa.

The Woody Guthrie Center is set to open to the public Saturday afternoon.

The center will feature interactive exhibits chronicling Guthrie's life and career and include Oklahoma's only permanent exhibit on the Dust Bowl. The collection will also feature Guthrie's original handwritten copy of "This Land is Your Land."

It will also be home to the Woody Guthrie archives, a collection featuring nearly 3,000 song lyrics, hundreds of pieces of artwork, journal entries, postcards, manuscripts and more than 500 photographs, among other rare items.

The archives will be open to the public by appointment for research use.
