TULSA - Crews responded to a south Tulsa pond early Tuesday morning after someone reported a vehicle submerged in the water.
According to the Tulsa Police Department dispatch, the call came in at 6:21 a.m.
The caller said a vehicle was in a pond near 71st Street and Highway 169.
Several units were called to the scene, including a rescue unit with the Tulsa Fire Department.
Fire officials on the scene said a group of boys were "four-wheeling" or "mudding" during the night and they got stuck. While trying to free their vehicle, their headlights illuminated the roof top of the vehicle in the pond.
The license plate has been recovered. Police said it's an Illinois tag, reported stolen in Tulsa in 1998. It was stolen May 27, 1998 sometime after 8 p.m. from the Waterford complex near 53rd and Harvard.
Police say the vehicle had likely been in the water for some time.
Officials say no one was inside the car.
