Set up for 2013 Tulsa State Fair underway; fair runs Sept. 26 through Oct. 6

The countdown to the Tulsa State Fair is on. In just a few days, the fairgrounds will open to thousands of visitors looking to experience the fair.

Organizers say fair-goers can expect to see a whole lot more entertainment, food and vendors. There will be more than 30 new rides and more than 10,000 animals.

New food at the fair includes bacon lemonade, fried fruity pebbles and cricket pizza. There are also armadillo eggs, cheesy bacon bombs and bourbon meatballs.

Along with new food, organizers say there will be a number of new rides, such as the fighter, the twister and white water.

Organizers tell 2NEWS this will be the most dramatic change to the Tulsa State Fair in 34 years.

"We have been here for over 100 years that's why it's so important that we do keep with the traditions and heritage. However, look outside the box and make sure we bring in new and fresh ideas," Tulsa State Fair manager Amanda Blair said.

The fair kicks off Thursday, Sept. 26.  Shuttles to the fairgrounds will run in the evenings throughout the week and at noon on weekends. Gates open at 5 p.m. Thursday.  The fair runs until Oct. 6.
