TULSA - Roughly 40,000 students hit the halls Thursday for a new school year at Tulsa Public Schools.
As students boarded buses, Superintendent Keith Ballard set off on his annual tour of the district's schools.
Ballard greeted teachers and students, offering encouragement on the new year and thanking teachers for their hard work.

Ballard says he knows administrators have a lot of challenges when it comes to funding but he says he's committed to doing all he can for the students in his district.
Ballard plans to visit every school in the district in the coming weeks.
