TULSA - Tulsa Police are investigating a deadly accident on a busy stretch of Brookside that serves more than 20-thousand drivers a day. Officers said a 25-year-old Lindsey Smith faces a first-degree manslaughter charge after hitting 35 year-old Kenneth Huck with her SUV Sunday night.

Police said the accident happened here near 34th and Peoria where Smith hit Huck with her car, hit a parked car, then went off the road hitting a tree.

"It's very tragic and I just wish people would be smart enough and not drink and drive,” said Tulsa Resident Elise Hensley.

While meeting up with friends in Brookside Sunday night, Elise Hensley said she couldn't believe a drunk driver hit someone with their car.

"After last night, I'm like, this could totally happen to anybody,” said Hensley.

Investigators are awaiting 25 year-old Lindsey Smith’s blood test results, after she hit Huck with her car while he was trying to cross Peoria.

"Indications are that alcohol and or drugs were involved,” said Tulsa Police Department Cpl. Steve Wood.

Tulsa Police said it's unusual for someone to get hit by a car in Brookside.

"Actually I'm surprised it's not more frequent. We believe that when Riverside was going to close that we were going to have a horrendous collision problem out here and that has not come to fruition,” said Cpl. Wood.

Gary Ericson said because there's so much traffic on Peoria, he doesn't feel safe using the crosswalks to get across the street.

"I don't think cars really notice these yield signs and so we always use the stoplights and cross when it says to cross,” said Ericson.

Along Peoria, there are signs reminding drivers to stop for pedestrians, but Hensley said the signs get ignored.

"Especially when this is a 25 mile per hour road people are going 70 to a hundred miles an hour on this road, that's ridiculous,” said Hensley.

Tulsa Police said witnesses are giving them conflicting information on whether Huck was in the crosswalk. They're reminding drivers to watch out for people crossing the road, and for pedestrians to watch out for drivers.
