Tulsa Police Department to crack down on drunk driving

TULSA - The Tulsa Police Department is stepping up enforcement, as an increased number of officers will be looking for drunk drivers.

Officers call the holiday season one of the most dangerous times of the of year, due to impaired drivers.

The added patrols will be monitoring Tulsa streets, as well as local bars, clubs and any place else alcohol may be served.

A grant from the Oklahoma Highway Safety Office will help pay overtime to the majority of the officers involved.

Those on patrol hope everyone considers safety first, when having a good time.

"The designated driver, if done right, works great," said Captain Rick Helberg.

AAA is also offering its "Tipsy Tow" service.

"Tipsy Tow" will give up to two passengers and a vehicle a ride home, to any location within 15 miles.

For a ride, passengers are urged to call 1-800-222-4357 (AAA-HELP).

The service runs from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., through New Year's Day.
