Tulsa Mayor Dewey Bartlett frustrated with city's green waste program, calling for changes

TULSA - After less than 10 months, Tulsa Mayor Dewey Bartlett said Wednesday the city's green waste program isn't working and needs to be reviewed.

The mayor said the biggest issue is the operation's current cost to the city, largely due to the city's inability to handle the clear bags initially requested of its residents.

According to the city of Tulsa's communications director Kim MacLeod, the city's de-bagging machine has not worked properly and has rendered the mulch-making process useless.

The yard waste is instead being regularly shipped along with the rest of Tulsa's trash to Covanta Tulsa Energy-from-Waste Facility.

The mayor plans to address the program's inefficiencies during Thursday's city council meeting and again during the next TARE board meeting.
