Trial under way for Tulsa man accused in girlfriend's murder

TULSA - The jury trial began Tuesday for a Tulsa man accused in the murder of Kimberly Ragland, 29, found dead in Heller Park nearly a year-and-a-half-ago.

James Darton, 25, was arrested and charged with first degree murder after police responded to a 911 call reporting shots fired near 55th and Wheeling on May 9, 2011. Arriving to the scene, they found Ragland slumped over in a car, bearing a gunshot wound.

According to police, witnesses said that hours before the shooting she had been at a party where she and Darton, her boyfriend, had been arguing.

In addition to the murder charge, he faces additional counts of possession of a firearm after a former conviction and assault and battery.
