TULSA - The Weather Channel meteorologist who found himself caught in the middle of the May 31, El Reno tornado was in Tulsa Thursday to talk about weather preparedness.
Mike Bettes spoke to a large crowd of parents and students at Union High School.
He discussed what happened in El Reno, where he and several of his colleagues were injured. "We found ourselves in a pretty unfortunate position," he said.
Despite what happened, Bettes is looking forward to his next chase. "We have this renewed sense of responsibility to inform the public, show them what happened to us and how it can happen to anybody," he said. "You've got to be aware of your surroundings and be prepared 100-percent of the time."
Bettes also encouraged the crowd to always be storm-ready, no matter the time of year. "Do everything you can to protect yourself, your family, your pets and your property," he said.
After his talk, Bettes spent time signing autographs and meeting fans.
