TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - A convicted felon living in Tahlequah arrested last week for allegedly trying to blow up a cellphone appeared in federal court Wednesday.
Investigators say Jeremy Ramirez was in the middle of attaching three blasting caps to the phone last Friday when the explosives blew up in his hands.

After receiving medical attention, Tahlequah police and federal authorities searched several homes tied to Smith and arrested the 27-year-old. Twelve more blasting caps were found in a family home, police say.
Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms agent Andrew Young says Ramirez was likely "experimenting" and didn't have any intention to harm anyone.
Wednesday was Ramirez' first federal court appearance for the alleged crime. He's facing one count of felon in possession of an explosive.
