NSU video captures young bear's fall from Tahlequah tree near college campus

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - Tahlequah residents surely didn't expect to find a bear in a tree just off of Northeastern State University's campus Wednesday, but that's exactly what happened.

Police received two bear sighting calls Wednesday afternoon and chased him for about 20 minutes until the black bear climbed the tree.

The bear, likely around a year old and weighing 130 to 140 pounds, was rescued from his perch around 4:30 p.m.

NSU captured video of the bear as the tranquilized animal struggled to maintain consciousness, ultimately falling from the tree into an outstretched net.

Workers with the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation took the bear to an animal sanctuary nearby.
