OTTAWA COUNTY, Okla. - An Illinois man accused of plotting to bomb 48 Oklahoma churches was officially charged Monday in Ottawa County.
Gregory Arthur Weiler II, 23, was arrested Friday for possession of an incendiary device and violating the state's anti-terrorism act.
According to court documents, Miami police were called to a motel Thursday in reference to suspicious items in a dumpster. Officers found several empty glass bottles with duct tape, pieces of cloth, lighter fluid and a gas can -- ingredients used to make Molotov cocktails, or gasoline bombs.
Police also found other bomb-making materials inside Weiler's motel room.
Recovered from the room were torn pieces of paper and a purple journal, which contained the recipe for Molotov cocktails, maps and a list of 48 churches to be targeted.
Federal agents with the FBI are heading up the investigation.
Weiler remains in the Ottawa County Jail. He's due back in court Oct. 22 at 9:30 a.m.
