Study: Tulsa International Airport ranked among most expensive airports per mile in US

TULSA - Only five airports in the country are more expensive per mile than Tulsa International, according to a recent study.

The report, conducted by Boyd Group International, states TIA flyers pay 21.1 cents per mile, which trail only Dallas/Love, Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky, Memphis, Houston/Intercontinental and Cleveland.

The study says that while a variety of other factors, like average ticket price, are frequently used to calculate traveler's expense, cost per mile is "the only true metric whereby 'consumer' cost can be compared."

Fares at Oklahoma City and Wichita are slightly slower, sitting around 18 and 17 cents, respectively.

A TIA representative said Friday officials with the airport are working to attract more airlines. That would increase competition and potentially lower the rate per mile.
