Some Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds set to reopen after federal shutdown

Reopened grounds to operate under fall hours

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Tulsa District announced Wednesday some Corps-operated campgrounds along the Oklahoma portion of the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System will reopen no later than Nov. 22.

Those parks closed earlier this year because of  funding limitations and will return to the regular fall schedule. The parks normally closed for the fall/winter period will remain closed according to the regular 2013 park schedule.

Without a federal budget, it isn't clear if there will be available funding to keep the parks open for the spring/summer recreation season.

Officials warn, because of the continuing budget constraints, visitors should be aware there may be damage to some facilities or areas that will keep them closed, there may be high grass in areas, and some silted boat ramps.

These are the areas to reopen:

-- McClellan-Kerr Navigation System
-- Afton Landing
-- Tullahassee Loop primitive campground
-- Webbers Falls
-- Brewers Bend
-- Spaniard Creek
-- R.S. Kerr Reservoir
-- Applegate Cove - boat ramp open, primitive camping only
-- Short Mountain Cove - boat ramp open, primitive camping in winter loop
-- Cowlington Point - boat ramp open, camping in the winter loop
