The proposed merger of the Tulsa-based Williams Company and Energy Transfer Equity took a step forward this week.

On Wednesday morning, the Security and Exchange Commission gave its approval for Williams shareholders to vote on the acquisition. The meeting is scheduled to be held sometime late next month.

Tulsa leaders are still keeping an eye on the business proceedings. City officials believe that if the merger goes through, around 900 jobs could be on the line.
