Sapulpa police beefing up Halloween patrol

SAPULPA, Okla. - Sapulpa police are adding officers to town streets Wednesday night.

Officers are watching for drunk drivers, thieves and speeders as part of their Halloween crackdown.

Sapulpa police Maj. Mike Reed said officers will be in neighborhoods, on busy streets and Route 66 leading into town.

Ten Sapulpa officers will be out roaming from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. Two of those 10 will be tasked to look for drivers under the influence.

The extra officers are paid with a grant from the Oklahoma Highway Safety Office.

Police will also be roaming neighborhoods. They say it's harder to spot suspicious activity, like car and home break-ins, because everyone's in costume, and will largely depend on the community's help.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol and Creek County deputies will also be assisting Sapulpa police.
