Sapulpa firefighters responded to a pair of house fires within four miles and just a few hours of each other between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

The first fire broke out at a home on West Burnham Avenue.

Fire officials say they found heavy flames coming from the home just before 11 p.m. Tuesday.

After initially fighting the fire in a defensive position, firefighters were able to move in and knock down that fire.

One firefighter was treated and released from the hospital for smoke inhalation.

As firefighters brought the fire under control, they received a call about a house fire near Dogwood Lane and South 49th West Avenue.

That call, according to Battalion Chief D.J. Keizor, included that someone might be trapped inside the home.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered the couple living inside had made it out safely.

After finding the fire in the second floor attic space of the 5,000 square foot home, firefighters quickly brought it under control.

The close timing of both fires was a concern for Keizor.

“It’s a challenge. You know, the staffing that we had tonight — I had to leave one crew with that fire because it was not totally out when we left that. It was under control,” he said. "So I left a crew there with that fire to make sure that we didn't get any extension on it."

The fire marshal is investigating both fires.
