SAND SPRINGS, Okla. – Two teens from Charles Page High School are proving that their love can outlast anything life throws at them.

Swift Myers, 18, has been battling Ewing’s sarcoma, a type of bone cancer reports TODAY, for seven years.

The battle has been off and on but one thing that seems to remain a constant in his life is his love for his girlfriend, and now wife, Abbi Myers, 18.

The two have joked about getting married in the past but when Swift Myers’ cancer returned, they decided to officially tie the knot.

"When he proposed, I totally thought he was joking, but I realized he wasn't when he told me to get my dad on the phone to ask his permission," Abbi Myers told TODAY. "My dad responded, saying, 'There would be no greater privilege than to have him as a son-in-law.'"

TODAY reports the couple had the marriage ceremony at Saint Francis, along with the help of nurses.

The pair’s history teacher, Kendra Roulet, provided rings and presented them to the couple.

"They are two incredible kids, so you do everything you can to make their dreams come true," Roulet told TODAY.

The pair told TODAY that they have been friends since they were sophomores.

"We were best friends for a little while after the birthday party and knew we liked each other, but it wasn't until he kissed me out of nowhere while Black Friday shopping in December 2014 that we became official," Myers told TODAY.

Abbi plans to attend the University of Tulsa in the fall for nursing school, while Swift plans to enroll at a local community college to study radiology.
