Mosquitoes are choosy, little creatures.

Research shows mosquitoes are attracted to sweattype O blood and pregnant womenAlso, if you drink alcohol, you're more likely to be bitten.

"I got bit a lot more this year than in other previous years," said Bethany Doubek from Tulsa.

Since the beginning of her pregnancy, Doubek started noticing more mosquito bites.

“Usually I don’t get bit that much, but they were pretty thick in my backyard this year," said Doubek.

Her mother, however, has never had a problem with these pesky insects.

"I will get an occasional bite, but not really, and I’m outside a lot," said Trish Moore.

While Moore doesn't need to load up on bug spray, Doubek said she can't go outside without applying some.

She also uses citronella candles if she goes outside, which is said to repel mosquitoes.

Scott Meador, the program coordinator for Vector Control at the Tulsa Health Department (THD), said to avoid getting bit, wear DEET repellent.
