Last year, during the Independence Day holiday weekend there were no fatalities reported in the Tulsa metro area. And troopers want to make sure to repeat that trend this year.
Starting Friday night, 15 state troopers will participate in a special patrol which will target drunk, aggressive and inattentive drivers.
The saturation begins early in the evening with troopers watching drivers all around the Tulsa metro area in heavy traffic areas around the IDL.
Around 11:30 p.m. officials will begin conducting DUI check points in the area of 7th Street just west of Highway 75.
Statewide, during Independence Day weekend last year, four people were killed in three separate traffic crashes.
In Green Country, troopers made seven DUI and three felony drug arrests. They served two warrants and issues 95 citations.
The message to drivers: remain sober behind the wheel and make alternate plans for travel if you plan to consume alcohol.
