TULSA - A street maintenance project is shutting down lanes of Peoria through next week.
Beginning at noon Tuesday, one lane in each direction will be closed between 41st and 48th while crews remove and replace the street surface with a new asphalt overlay. Lane closures will shift as work progresses.
According to the City of Tulsa, repaving the road is meant to preserve its condition until 2019 when a complete street rehabilitation project is scheduled to begin.
A man who works at a motorcycle shop in the area says he has mixed feelings about the project.
"This is not a motorcycle friendly town. As somebody that rides every day we've got some serious issues with our streets. So anytime that they're going to work on something and make it better … I’m all for it. But it will have a negative impact on our business here for a while," said Chuck Shumate, Brookside Motorcycle Company.
Work on the road is set to begin Wednesday and last through July 18.
