Turner Turnpike reopened; drivers still urged to use caution

CREEK COUNTY, Okla. - Authorities reopened part of the Turner Turnpike, however all Creek County state highways are still closed due to a wildfire.

Hundreds of firefighters have been battling several grass fires throughout Creek County since Thursday, none of which are contained, authorities said.

Creek County Commissioner Newt Stephens said the fire has consumed about 50,00 acres in an area around 6 miles wide and 13 miles deep.

Everyone in the area has been evacuated, and there have been no injuries, Stephens said.

At least 40 homes were destroyed on Friday, and even more were engulfed by Saturday morning, he said. 

Official numbers for the homes lost have not been released yet.

Other road closures include:

State Highway 33 from State Highway 48  to State Highway 99.

State Highway 51 from State Highway 48 to State Highway 99.

State Highway 99 from State Highway 51 to State Highway 33.

State Highway 48 from State Highway 51 to State Highway 33.
