Folds of Honor fundraiser Patriot Range Day to help military families nationwide

OWASSO, Okla. - Starting Thursday and running through Veterans Day weekend,  you can help families of military service members killed or disabled in action.

Approximately 8,000 shooting ranges nationwide are helping a local organization hit its mark with the fundraiser called Patriot Range Day.

For the first year ever,  the Folds of Honor Foundation is partnering with shooting ranges to raise funds for scholarships.

Participating ranges will be taking in donations through Sunday.

It's a similar concept to the well-established Patriot Golf Day partnership with the PGA of America and the United States Golf Association (USGA), which has raised millions of dollars for scholarships to benefit the children and spouses of military service members killed or disabled in action.

Founded by Oklahoma Air National Guard Major Dan Rooney, Folds of Honor is headquartered is in Owasso.

Rooney hopes Green Country will join the rest of the nation to support the cause.

"This is a seed of patriotism that we're planting that we hope will flourish much like Patriot Golf Day has across this country," said Rooney.  "This year from Patriot Golf Day we estimate a little over $4 million  that we'll raise as a foundation and we hope Patriot Range Day will grow into something equally as beneficial to these families."
