Owasso police: warmer weather may spark crime wave; residents on the look-out for criminal activity

Owasso police need the public's help in identifying two suspects caught on surveillance video looking into some parked cars.

It happened this past weekend in the Country Estates neighborhood, and it appears the suspects were spooked away by the sensor lights. Police have responded to three auto burglaries in that neighborhood in the last two weeks.

Owasso Deputy Chief of Police Jason Woodruff says sometimes there are crime waves brought on by warmer weather, but citizens should feel safe.

"We've definitely seen some crime," he said.  "With the summer months weather is starting to heat up, the incidents are going to increase a little bit. The same happens when schools let out."

Wednesday morning, 24-year-old Kimberly Patrick was arrested on charges of trying to steal from the Owasso Walmart. A small chase ensued, when police officers finally caught up to her, they found her 13-year-old accomplice and toddler inside the car. The toddler was not in a car seat.

Woodruff says Owasso has grown in population and businesses, which also tends to attract outside criminals.

This month police responded to a shooting at an apartment complex, this was only the third shooting this year. Owasso hasn't seen a homicide since 2012.
