OWASSO, Okla. - Macy's broke ground Thursday on their newest fulfillment center in Owasso.
The 1.3 million square foot center, located near the intersection of 76th Street North and 75th Avenue, will be one of four centers in the nation that Macy's uses to ship out online orders.
The company plans to open the center by the spring of 2015 and be fully operational by the summer.
The Owasso site was chosen because of its proximity to the interstate, which allows for easier shipping, and because it provides the sense of community Macy's strives to achieve.
"Everything from the governor's office to the local officials, they couldn't have been more generous in their attention to us and their outreach in embracing us," said Peter Longo, president of logistics and operations for Macy's, Inc.
The company will employ 1,500 full and part time workers at the center , with an additional 1,000 workers during the holiday season.
