Slick roads, speed believed factors in early morning accident that killed man in Owasso

OWASSO, Okla. - Owasso police say slick roads and speed may have caused a deadly crash early Thursday morning.

Clark Van Pelt, 24, was killed in the single-car crash near 106th Street and North 161st East Avenue around 4:45 a.m.

Investigators say the car left the roadway and hit a tree with enough impact to push the back tire to the front seat. Troopers say the streets were slick and there was fog in the area, but they believe Van Pelt was speeding.

Van Pelt's father, Peter Van Pelt, attended Owasso High School, Tulsa Tech and Pittsburg State University.

"We will always remember him as handsome and fun, quick-witted and engagingly quick," Peter said. "He was a walking, talking Google of information. He loved his family and his friends. He loved life!"

Van Pelt's was the only vehicle involved.
