OWASSO, Okla. – Police say there have been multiple rumors circulating in recent days about a possible school shooting that caused concern for students and parents.

School resources officers are taking the threats seriously-- but police say the situation had grown into exaggeration and paranoia then Wednesday morning a threat was found at the mid-high school that fueled that fear.

Owasso police say they were called to Owasso Mid High after a student allegedly made a statement that was perceived as threatening. The student was interviewed temporarily removed from the school.

They went on to say they were made aware of a “potentially threatening statement” that was written on the wall of a bathroom.

“There have been multiple rumors circulating the community about a possible school shooting in Owasso, understandably causing great concern on the part of the students and parents alike. School Resource Officers are taking each of these rumors seriously until they can be proven to be founded or unfounded. Many of these rumors have greatly exaggerated the facts surrounding these incidents and so far, none of the information we have investigated has proven to be a known credible threat against any of the Owasso schools or students.”

Owasso police also say they will continue to investigate the allegations and they increased security as a precautionary measure.
