Osage County authorities nab 2 suspected copper thieves

OSAGE COUNTY, Okla. - Osage County authorities have arrested two men the Tulsa Police Department's Gilcrease Division officers reportedly witnessed stealing copper .

Behind bars at the Osage County jail are Jeremy Allen Young, 28, and Matthew Russell Potts, 36, charged with entering with intent to steal copper, distribution of controlled dangerous substances, possession with intent to distribute, possession of burglary implements and unlawful possession of marijuana.

According to officials, the two were arrested after being alerted by the Gilcrease Division's Copper Theft Task Force, recently boosted in force size to combat increasing instances of copper theft around Tulsa.

Police said officers observed Potts and Young in the area of 5000 W. 53rd St. North loading a large amount of stolen phone cable into the bed of Young's truck. After following the men, officers called the Osage County Sheriff's Office to assist.

When authorities stopped the men, a search of the vehicle revealed not only burglary tools and the large amount of stolen phone cable but indicated the two had been trafficking drugs.
