Ryan died when a large tree fell on his car when he was driving. He was about 15 miles away from his house when the incident happened. Authorities say he was the only person in the car at the time.
Family and friends say Ryan moved to Michigan a few years ago to be with his girlfriend. His father said he will be greatly missed.
"It'll take some time. It'll certainly take some time to get past it. Ryan, he's a heck of a young man...I don't know what we're going to do from here," Ryan Rickman's father Bruce Rickman said.
Ryan graduated from Dewey High School in 2011.
He took online classes at Fort Scott Community College in Kansas. He was studying agriculture and was an accomplished member of the Fort Scott community college rodeo team.
